The magnificent sum of £12,000 was
raised at a splendid Ball recently organised by
Guildford Lions in aid of
\The Prostate Project and GRACE.
Each charity received cheques for £6,000 from Lion
President Keith Hamblin who thanked all those who had
attended the event and given so generously.
Receiving the cheque the
Prostate Project Consultant John Davies said the
donation will be used to purchase two special cystoscopes to be used with a recently
acquired Green Light Laser.
The cheque for GRACE
was received by gynaecological oncologist Simon
Butler-Manuel who thanked everyone and said the money
would be used to purchase three hysteroscopes which will allow the two
gynaecological oncologists to undertake keyhole surgery on patients suffering from gynaecological cancer.
It was an entertaining evening the highlight of which were
the singing waiters; you had to be there to understand
the attraction, but they brought the house down.
Project Prostate, based at
the Royal Surrey County Hospital, undertakes research
into prostate problems, whilst GRACE, a newly established
charity, aims to carry out research into gynaecological
cancers. |
