This years
event on
Friday 5th
November at
Stoke Park,
was a great
success with
around 1000
people
taking part
in the
Torchlight
Procession,
led by the
Mayor, Keith
Taylor, and
the
President of
the
Guildford
Lions, Jim
Dey. The
procession
went from
the
Guildhall to
Stoke Park
where
another
10,000,
joined the
general
throng.
The
Guildford
Firework
Fiesta is
possibly the
best
firework
display,
staged
anywhere in
the south of
England, and
due in the
main to the
sponsorship
provided by:
,
with support
from
Guildford
Borough
Council.
Nor would
the display
be possible
without the
manpower
provided by
a majority
of the
Guildford
Lions Club
members,
ably
assisted by
members of
the
Godalming,
Woking and
Cranleigh
Lions.
Surrey
Police, St.
John
Ambulance
and RAYNET
provided the
essential
services to
ensure a
safe and
injury-free
event.
Our very
special
thanks must
inevitably
go to our
joint-Chairmen
for the
event, Lion
Trevor Perry
and Lion
Bill Blake
without
whose
inspiration
and
exceedingly
hard work,
the event
would not
have got off
the ground.
The
objectives
of this
event are
twofold; the
first to
provide the
community
with a safe
and
entertaining
firework
display, the
second, to
raise funds
for local
charities by
collecting
from the
public.
The money
raised will
go to local
causes.
This site
will be
updated in
due course
to record
the causes
that will
receive
donations
from
collections
made on the
night. So
watch this
space!
