Another Raft Race success

The weather was very hot, and the water was very wet. However 26 rafts headed down river from Millmead to the Waterside Centre and raised about £10,000 for charity at the same time.

With a clash with another important sports event (Andy Murray beating Andy Roddick at Wimbledon - what else did you think!) entries were a bit down on previous years, but just as much fun was had by everyone involved.

Results

As usual a Super Raft (Holdaway Building Services) was the quickest to complete the course with a time of just 25m 0s whilst the slowest raft was that of Laing O'Rourke who just beat the Saturday Activity Raft and also the Christie Family with 1h 43m 55s.

Winners in the Youth Class were 1st Rydes Hill Scouts easily beating the Banshee Rippers and Wood Street Scouts.

Surrey Fire and Rescue were on the scene to help out in one of their rescue boats, and their compatriots from the emergency services, Surrey Ambulance Service, entered two rafts.

There was even a raft from the Church of the Latter Day Saints and St Peters Church at Stoke Hill although we didn't see any walking on water.

Radio 96.4 The Eagle had a good result with PG (Peter Gordon) taking the helm and finishing with a time of just 54m 45s on The Love Raft.

The Mayor Guildford Cllr Angela Gunning enjoyed the day and presented the prizes with Guildford Lions Club President Trevor Perry.

Oh - and England went out of the World Cup!!!
