| Since
1917, Lions clubs have offered people the
opportunity to give something back to their
communities. From involving members in projects
as local as cleaning up an area park or as
far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's
blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those
committed to building a brighter future for
their community.
Today
the Lions of Guildford, with more than
approximately 45,000 clubs in 200 countries and
geographical areas, Lions have expanded their
focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of
our global community.
Our
programs are continually changing to meet new
needs and greater demands, but our mission has
never wavered: "We Serve."
While each Lions Club gives priority to the
needs of its local community the Association is
truly international with no religious or
political affiliations of any description. We
serve in any way we can, and to the best of our
ability, to what we see to be the needs of the
community in which we live, in whatever form it
appears necessary, and to whatever extent our
resources of time and money permit.
We receive
requests of all natures, and sometimes it takes
a while to find the right answer or right person
for the job. we can and do contact other
organisations if they are better able to assist
- all in an effort to provide speedy help. All
this is done in our spare time, there are no
full time organisers.
As an International organisation Lions are able
to provide urgent assistance in times of
disaster such as the
Turkey
earthquake or flooding in west and
northern England through the Lions Clubs
International Foundation, a trust fund
established by regular contributions from Lions
Clubs throughout the world.
Money is raised
from you, the public, to support our projects.
All monies raised in this way are entirely used
for charity. Nothing at all is deducted for Club
administration. All members subscribe to their
own administration costs.
The effort
contributed by a collection of men and women
(and frequently their families too) for serving
their local community provides a fellowship
second to none - an important aspect of our Club
life.
Our activities
include - supplying furniture to those in need,
assisting families in distress, working with the
blind, and the physically and mentally
handicapped. Providing hospital equipment and
patients comforts. Supplying food parcels to
OAPs and others in need. Providing transport for
the blind and organising outings and concerts
for the elderly. Sponsorship of MedicAlert,
Project Sight First and other 'quality of life
enhancing projects
Our
programs are continually changing to meet new
needs and greater demands, but our mission has
never wavered: "We Serve."
