Message in a bottle
Introduction
Message in a Bottle is not solely a Lions initiative, however it is a project that Guildford Lions Club have been involve with for many years and we have supplied about 20,000 bottles to the community free of charge.
This scheme is free to the user and is supported by the ambulance and other emergency services. Whilst it is focused on the more vulnerable people in our community, anyone can fall downstairs, so the scheme can benefit anyone. All the members of Guildford Lions have bottles and so have many of their partners and friends.
As a minimum it will save the Emergency Services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their friends and families.
How does it work?
The Lions Message in a Bottle scheme is a simple idea designed to encourage people to keep their personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge. Should the emergency services have to call they automatically look for the bottle and then have basic medical and other information to work from.
Where can I get a bottle?
Bottles, which are free of charge, can usually be found in your local chemist or doctor’s surgeries. Thanks to a number of other organisations, you may also find that you can obtain one through your nearest neighbourhood watch group, Age Concern, council offices, housing associations and many other places including Police stations.
If you are unable to find a bottle, please contact us.
Multiple supplies
Any organisation, club or other group can be supplied with multiple bottles for its members.
